Health Is Wealth: Why Your Body’s Vitality is the Real Treasure

woman raising her hands

We’ve all heard it before, “health is wealth.” It’s catchy, rolls off the tongue, and looks good on a T-shirt or water bottle. But let’s be honest: most people don’t really sit with what it means until their health slips through their fingers. And by then, most believe it’s too late to do anything about it because they are too far gone or too “old.”

The fact is, you are NEVER too far gone or too old to make your health a priority. This isn’t just about having abs or fitting into old jeans. This is about vitality, the spark that makes you feel truly alive in your body, mind, and spirit. Energy. Breath. Peace of mind. Mobility. Sleep. Joy. Presence.

And if you’re already managing a serious health condition, this message is still for you. You can begin right now by letting go of the things, habits, foods, or stressors that contributed to the breakdown. You may not control everything, but you do control your alignment. And that matters.

Health is the real luxury.
And in a world constantly selling you things to fill the void, let me say this with my whole chest… your well-being is your most valuable asset. Health is even above physical beauty, because beauty is subjective. But good health supports the internal beauty that becomes your asset. Holistic health for women is crucial, especially in the uncertain times we’re living.

Let’s break this down from a physical, spiritual, and metaphysical lens. Because your health isn’t surface level, it’s soul deep. And it’s never too late to do better.

The Physical Truth – Your Body’s Cry for Care

There’s no shortcut around it. The body you live in is the only one you get to care for until it’s your time to go. And the thing about our beautiful, brilliant, often overworked bodies is this: they’re always talking to us. But we usually don’t listen until they scream.

Fatigue. Bloating. Insomnia. Mood swings. Aches and pains we write off as “getting older.”

But here’s the truth: many of our most common dis-eases are reversible.

Let me say that again: reversible.

Type 2 diabetes? Reversible.
High blood pressure? Reversible.
Chronic inflammation and fatigue? Manageable and often avoidable.
Chronic heart disease? Often preventable and dramatically improvable with consistent care.Even early-stage fatty liver, insulin resistance, and joint discomfort? All can shift with changes in lifestyle.

Heart disease is still the leading cause of death in the U.S., especially for Black adults. Yet we talk about it like it’s inevitable. It’s not.Even if it runs through your family, lifestyle changes can help you avoid diagnosis. Every walk, every choice to drink water instead of soda, every moment of rest over stress is a small rebellion against the idea that we have to die early from weakened hearts, tired bodies, and heredity.

My Health Journey

I’m not speaking as a doctor, but as someone living this truth. I’ve made some key changes, specifically fine tuning my wellness after 40. Not for vanity, but because I want to live a long, healthy life full of vitality. And if my son chooses to give me grand babies, I want to be vibrant to keep up with them. I want to be that 70+ lady that instructs my Body Pump class on Sundays. I want to be able to drive and move freely in my RV cross country as I get older. And I certainly don’t want poor health to restrict me from doing the active things I love, especially travel.

Daily Habits

These are the daily habits that help me stay ahead of the curve, especially with diabetes and hypertension running through my family tree:

  • 1 gallon of water a day – not optional. It’s restoration. It’s clarity. It’s flushing out what doesn’t belong. Most days I fall a little short, but that’s okay. I continue to show up and make the effort.
  • Intermittent fasting (16:8) – letting my body rest from constant digestion. As we age, our metabolism naturally slows and our cells take longer to repair, but fasting gives the digestive system a break, allowing the body to focus on cellular cleanup, hormone regulation, and reducing inflammation.
  • Iced green tea + chlorophyll water – not together; they help me to reach my gallon a day water intake. These are antioxidant powerhouses. They support detox, energy, and even mood.
  • Daily walking + strength training – simple, steady movement. No gym flex. Just honoring my bones and muscles; particularly important for women to strength train as we age to keep our muscle mass. And muscle helps to burn fat.
  • Collagen/protein fruit smoothie – feeding my cells real nutrients that support skin, hair, joints, and strength. If you want to slow down aging ladies, collagen is your friend.
  • No hard liquor – I can toast to life without poisoning my liver. As we age, our liver becomes less efficient at processing toxins, and regular alcohol use can accelerate inflammation, disrupt hormone balance, weaken immunity, and increase the risk of heart disease and certain cancers. If I do indulge, it’s on the occasional social event.
  • Mediterranean eating lifestyle – colorful, flavorful, nourishing. I intend to transition to this style of eating, moving away from the standard American diet that’s killing us slow and keeping the medical industry thriving. Whole grains, veggies, fish, nuts, and olive oil. Nothing restrictive, just rich with life.

These aren’t fads. They’re loving decisions. And the impact? It’s not just numbers on a scale. It’s fewer headaches. Lower blood pressure. Better sleep. More peace. More presence.

The Spiritual Root – Your Body is a Sacred Temple for The Divine

Let’s talk spiritual wellness, because this right here is where the depth lives.

So many of us were raised in traditions that disconnected us from our bodies, teaching us to deny, restrict, shame, or ignore them. But let me offer a truth that healed me:
Your body is not the enemy. Your body is the altar.

It holds memory and trauma. It also holds the key to divine connection. When you care for your body, you don’t just improve your energy, you improve your ability to hear from Spirit. When the body is inflamed, tired, or neglected, it becomes harder to receive guidance, stay grounded in prayer, or even recognize when Spirit is speaking.

That includes your sexual health, too. Your desire, pleasure, and connection to intimacy don’t disappear with age, they evolve. When we care for our bodies holistically, we often find that libido, confidence, and sensual energy return more naturally than we imagined. Sexual wellness is part of vitality, not separate from it, and honoring it is another way to honor life itself.

When my sleep was off, I couldn’t meditate. When my sugar was crashing from too much snacking and my sweet tooth, my anxiety spiked. And when I wasn’t moving my body, I felt stuck in every area of life.

Taking care of my health became a spiritual practice.

That gallon of water? A baptism every day.
That outdoor walk? Communion with the Earth.
That no to hard liquor? A yes to clarity, presence, and protection.

Let’s reframe what wellness means. Not as punishment, hustle culture, or aesthetics. But as honoring the sacred space we live in. Our bodies have carried so much, especially for those of us in Black and Indigenous lineages. It’s time to treat them like the temples they are.

The Metaphysical Reality – Health Is a Frequency

Now let’s take it even deeper. Health isn’t just about food or fitness; it’s energy.
Everything is vibration. Everything is flow. And when the body is dis-eased, it’s telling us something is out of alignment. Here’s some metaphysical wisdom that shifted everything for me from You Can Heal Your Life by Louise Hay:

  • High blood pressure is often tied to long-standing emotional tension. Rage. Suppression. Not feeling safe to express.
  • Diabetes can manifest when sweetness is missing from your life, when you’re giving too much and not receiving enough.
  • Joint issues can reflect a fear of change, rigidity in thinking, or feeling unsupported.
  • Cancer, as Louise Hay and other thought leaders have suggested, can stem from deep, unresolved grief and emotional wounding.

Do these metaphysical interpretations mean we don’t need medicine or doctors? Of course not. But it does mean that our healing can’t be just physical. It must include the emotional and energetic body.

The Shift

When I began shifting my habits, I noticed more than weight loss.
I noticed emotional release. Tears I didn’t know I was holding. Old beliefs coming up for clearing. A new relationship with my inner child and my ancestors. I wasn’t just healing my body, I was rewriting my story, healing my lineage.

That’s the level of richness I’m talking about when I say health is wealth. It’s the wealth of wholeness. Of balance. Of coming home to yourself.

When we treat healing as sacred work, not just a checklist, we invite transformation on every level. Our bodies become lighter. Our minds clearer. And our spirit louder. Healing isn’t just possible, it’s already happening, one choice at a time.

Let’s ground all of this into a few soulful takeaways you can carry with you.

Final Reflection

I don’t care if you’re 28 or 68. If you’ve been on meds for years or just got a warning from your doctor.

It’s not too late.

And if you’re someone already dealing with major health issues, know this: it’s not too late for you either.

Healing doesn’t always mean cure, but it does mean alignment. And that alignment can begin today.

Your body wants to heal. Your cells want to thrive. And your spirit wants peace.

And no, you don’t have to change everything overnight. I didn’t. I still slip sometimes. But I keep showing up. When I fall off the wagon, I climb right back on with no shame or talking down to myself. I give myself grace, because I love this body. I respect this breath. And I’ve got too much purpose to live in a fog.

Maybe you’ve been ignoring the warning signs. Maybe you’ve been so busy taking care of everyone else, you forgot about you.

And this message isn’t just for my elder readers, it’s for the young folks as well. The earlier you begin caring for your body with mindfulness and intention, the better it will continue to function for you as you move through the years.

Whether 28 or 68… this is your reminder to care for the body that carries your soul.

Do Your Inner Work

Don’t wait for a health scare to remind you what matters.
Don’t wait for the diagnosis, the collapse, the ER visit.

Start today with something small:

  • Ditch the sodas and fruit juices (yes, that means ginger ale too).
  • A 20-minute walk.
  • A gentle stretch.
  • Words of power and gratitude over your plate.
  • Say a kind word to your reflection.
  • Change your language from “I am sick” to “I am healing”.

Because health is wealth. And not the kind you hoard, but the kind you live.

You are worthy of vitality.
You are worthy of energy.
And you are worthy of joy in your body… not later, now.

Take your power back.
One breath.
One bite.
One loving choice at a time.
